Prof. Dr. Halil Nalçaoğlu

Dean of the Communication Faculty of Istanbul Bilgi University

He was born in Ankara in 1962. After he graduated from the Sociology Department of Middle East Technical University, he earned his master’s degree in Social Sciences Institute at Ankara University and doctorate’s degree at Massachusetts University. His publications include the articles “A Framework to Understand the Relationship Between Media and Society”, “Exhibition Philosophy and Museums in Modern Societies”, “Homeland: Under, Over and Beyond Earth”, “Heterotopia, Colony and Other Places: Remarks on a Short Text by Michel Foucault”, “Problems of Communication, Optimism and Credibility in an Empire”, “Ethos of Youth and New Social Communication: Illusions, Findings and Speculations”, “Destruction of Internet and Image: Quest for a Theoretical Model to Analyze Internet Content” and the book Deconstruction of Cultural Difference. Halil Nalçaoğlu who has undertaken design and coordination of several social research projects for UNICEF, TUBITAK, European Commission Civil Society Development Project, UNDP GEF-SGP, Ipsos KMG and Istanbul Bilgi University since 2000 also held office as the Coordinator of Media and Communication Systems Undergraduate and Graduate Programs, Faculty of Communication, Istanbul Bilgi University. He has been working as the Dean of the Communication Faculty since 2011.

You are Breakthrough: 10 (or More) Non-Technological Ideas on Technologies That Connect People

I will talk on ten (or more) seemingly unconnected ideas to illustrate that connectivity is not a thing but a performance. Technology is part of our present and future (our age) and we need to understand it in order to find our way through. But technology is part of what we need to understand, that is, the present age.
