Laura Fenercioğlu

English teacher at Eyüboğlu Çamlıca Primary School

I was born in 1985 in Lithuania. As I grew up surrounded by nature and teachers (half of my relatives work in the education sector), I became a nature-loving teacher. I have been living and teaching English in Istanbul for the last 5 years. I love learning new things and travelling. I also like to challenge myself and do the things that kick me out of my comfort zone...because that’s the best way to learn. As I am passionate about my profession, I like to share the things I learn with my students. In my free time, I travel around Turkey, exploring its historical and natural beauty, reading, hiking in the mountains, baking pies and looking for new adventures (like doing this TEDx talk!)

It all started as a silly idea six years ago. My husband and I had some free time on Kos island and decided to see a chapel on the top of the highest peak. It was a bad experience but we learned our lesson and decided to repeat this experience with another peak on the other island next year. And we got hooked. Last year, we faced our biggest challenge so far.. A ten-hour climb. Goals appear in our lives. It’s how we react to them that matters: You never know if you’ll like something before you try it.
