Under Pressure: The Hidden Loops of the Human Mind
My speech will explore how pressure affects a person’s psyche and, in turn, influences their relationships—creating a continuous loop where behavior and external expectations feed into one another. I’ll discuss how pressure originates, referencing both historical and current examples, and how individuals in society are often led to apply pressure to others. In many cases, they themselves are pressured to do so due to social expectations and consequences, which I will also address.
To illustrate these ideas, I plan to compare present-day experiences with the quarantine period from 2020 to 2022. I will also examine how different mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions—mainly ADHD and Autism—can shape how pressure is perceived and processed. I’ll highlight how challenges like social anxiety can develop differently for individuals with or without diagnosed conditions, especially when these conditions remain undiagnosed, which is unfortunately very common.
Additionally, I’ll briefly touch on the importance of how we respond to pressure, and how these responses are evolving in newer generations such as Gen Z and Gen Alpha—who, despite often being grouped together, actually show notable differences.
This speech will be impactful because it addresses many critical points that affect people from all walks of life. By revealing how various internal and external factors shape our experience of pressure, I hope to encourage others to reflect on these dynamics in their own daily lives.

Grade 9 student at SEV American College
Hello, my name is Ada Çakır, and I am a 9th-grade student at SEV American College. I’m currently 15 years old and will be turning 16 on September 25th. I grew up with undiagnosed ADHD in a fast-paced generation, and for a long time, I didn’t even know my own homeland's language because I learned English first. I have a strong interest in psychology and hope to become a forensic psychologist and profiler one day.
